Tokyo DisneySea – June 2002
Happy Birthday Tokyo DisneySea! Its been 15 years since the opening of one of the most cherished Disney theme parks in the world. Many folks have compared DCA to TDS as they both opened in the same year and were second parks of there respective resort areas. As much as I loved DCA, even in it’s 1.0 state, walking into DisneySea is on a whole other level. I’m sure most Disneylanders look to Disney Sea and wonder what could have been for Anaheim’s second park. Still, just like DCA, DisneySea didn’t have crazy crowds its opening year and although it had some amazing attractions, there wasn’t much to do. That June day, I think the longest wait we had at the park was for the gyoza bun cart in Mysterious Island. Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20k Leagues and StormRider topped out at 15 minutes and everything else was pretty much a walk on. Crazy to think how things have changed with the addition of Tower of Terror and Toy Story Midway Mania. The once quiet park has now evolved into its own and is right up there with the castle parks as most attended in the world. I can not wait to see where this park heads with the addition of its 8th port and hopefully one day I’ll be able to make it back there to check it out. Until then check out some of the pictures from that June 2002 trip I fortunately found on my hard drive.
